When Your Soul Refuses to Be Comforted

Nov 30, 2025    Gary Addeo

Have you ever sat in church while everyone else seems full of praise and thanksgiving… but inside, you feel empty, distant, or even abandoned by God? This message walks through Psalm 77 and the life of Asaph, a worship leader who loved God deeply yet went through a season of sleepless nights, unanswered questions, and a soul that “refused to be comforted.”

Using the contrast between Thanksgiving joy and the chaos of Black Friday, we explore the contrast in our own hearts: from testimonies of God’s goodness to the very real experience of distress, depression, and spiritual dryness. We follow Asaph’s journey from honest lament—asking, “Has His mercy ceased forever? Has God forgotten to be gracious?”—to a turning point where he refocuses his mind by remembering God’s past faithfulness, His mighty works, and His unchanging love.

This sermon is for anyone who is:

• In a hard season and wondering where God is

• Struggling with sleepless nights, anxiety, or discouragement

• Finding it difficult to rejoice when others are sharing praise reports

• Needing a reminder that God has not stopped loving you, and that there is always another side to the story in Christ

Watch and be encouraged to keep seeking the Lord, not to walk through your season alone, and to discover hope again as you remember who God is and what He’s already done in your life.
